I had met Fernan again since I hadn't seen him since at least July 2003, when he was on a visit to SOCSOUTH over a year ago. As usual, he was upbeat.  I will always have the memories of conducting airborne sustainment training with him throughout the years at Ft Bragg NC.  Today I just learned of his death.  Rest in peace my friend, my prayers and condolences are with the Castelo family at this time.

May all loved ones continue to find stregnth and be assured that his legacy continues in the lives of all the Soldiers that he has ever encountered!

Words cannot express the honor and privilege when he shared moments of his time.  When a King enters a room, everyone feels His presence!

God Bless!

Dear Castelo Family, I have been extremely SAD all day since I sadly learned of your dear Fernan passing away. I met him briefly a few years ago and remember him being SO polite, SO respectful, SO professional, SO dignified, and SO caring!  It is VERY impressive to meet such an OUTSTANDING and INCREDIBLY patriotic Soldier like CSM Castelo.  His accomplishments are ASTOUNDING and I see he has a very LOVING Family. MY heart is SO heavy !~ May GOD bless you all during this incredibly difficult and tragic time.  Connie Piper

My heart is deeply saddened by the passing of Bro. Fernan.  He could always be counted on to "lift my spirits" and encourage me when I needed a boost. He was always equipped with a "joke" that was guaranteed to make you laugh. Bro. Fernan was a good person and I thank God for the opportunity to have met him.  Grateful am I for the chance to talk with him, sing with him, laugh with him, and especially pray with him.  I know that I will never forget him and I will truly miss him.  To the Castelo family I extend my sincere, heartfelt condolences and know that I am praying for all of you.

May CSM Castelo rest eternally in peace. He was a soldier's soldier. He taught me about personal accountability. You could always see a deep dissapointment in his eyes when a soldier form POG got into some type of trouble. Yet, he would make an effort to mentor us young NCOs on how to mold these young men and women into honest, hard-working soldiers. He came to my and SSG Hurter's BNCOC graduation to express congratulations in taking the next step in our military careers. That really meant a lot. For being a CSM, he was very down to earth and approachable. He didn't put himself at the top of an unreachable ladder. It seemed important to him to be able to maintain situational awareness of his unit by interacting with soldiers, rather it was on a jump or in the MOC. My condolences go out to his family and brothers in arms. We all lost a friend and great leader.

They say love beyond this world cannot be separated by death.  Although it's difficult to see pass the sorrow. May the blessings of love be upon you and  memories help comfort you. In loving memories of CSM Fernan Castelo.

My deepest condolences to the Castelo family on the passing of Fernan. He was a man of great compassion who cared deeply for his family, his country and his Soldiers. He will be greatly missed, but his impact on the PSYOP community and his legacy of leadership will live on in those he mentored and assisted over his many years in uniform. Thank you for sharing him with us.
