John,
I miss our many talks while in Hawaii as we would run to the top of Kole Kole Pass and back to our quad in 2-35 Inf "Cacti"
You pushed me on many occasions on our two Oahu perimeter runs around the island and helped me find success through fitness.
My heart goes out to your family and friends of such a tragic loss. Many prayers are sent out as I sit still astonished as to all of this.
Thank you for your service to our country in ways most will not fathem. I will truly miss you my friend!

John was like a brother to me. He was my roommate for three years when we were stationed in Hawaii together. Over the years we lost a lot of friends but John's loss has hit me extra hard. I love you brother and already miss you terribly. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Pettit family, especially Liam. John's Cacti family pains from his loss and send their condolences as well.
