Dateline: Ft. Hood, TX Formerly of Fayetteville

PVT Michael Luis Garcia, 28, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 from injuries sustained during a training mission in Ft. Irwin, CA.

PVT Garcia was born in Stamford, CT. on March 21, 1988 to Luis and Evelyn Dejesus Garcia. After graduating High School he worked for the Lumberton, NC Police Department and the Cumberland County, NC Sheriff Department. He enlisted in the US Army and had been on Active Duty since March, 2016. He was assigned to 4th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas. His awards and decorations include National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

He is survived by his parents, Luis Garcia and Evelyn Garcia; a son, Zayn Michael Garcia; brothers, Angel Garcia, Luis Garcia, Juan Garcia, Anthony Garcia and many extended family members.

Visitation will be 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Thursday, March 2, 2017 at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304. 

Funeral Services will be 12:00 noon Friday, March 3, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints, 6420 Morganton Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28314 with Bishop Elbert Hare officiating.

Burial will follow in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Spring Lake, NC.
