Stephen Thornton Obituary

Dateline: Fayetteville

MSG Stephen John Thornton, Retired, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2020 in his home surrounded by his family at the age of 63.

Steve was born in Nassau County, NY on November 21, 1956, son to Joseph and Edith Dibble Thornton. MSG Thornton served 20 years in the US Army and has always said there is no job he could ever do that would be more fulfilling. Steve was very humorous and always made us laugh. He was loyal and protective of his family and friends and was very blunt, yet still respected by everyone he came in contact with. He pulled no punches and always spoke his mind no matter the consequences and lived by his convictions. There’s no doubt he'd be telling jokes and making people laugh right now, and would also talk about his family who he supported, protected, and loved for 42 years. A true American hero who will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Thornton.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne Thornton of the home; his mother, Edith Thornton; sons, Chad Thornton and wife Karen, Cole Thornton; a daughter, Carly Clark and husband Jeremy; a brother, Joe Thornton; sisters, June Voepel and Linda Latham; grandchildren, Jacob Clark, Colton John Clark, Mia Thornton, Molly Eggleston, Avery Eggleston and many extended family members and friends.

A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements for the family are entrusted to LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304. On-line condolences may be made at www.lafayettefh.com.
