Mary Anderson Obituary

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust. Psalm 91:1-2

OBITUARY

Mary Delores Anderson was born in Independence, Louisiana, on July 26, 1946 to the late Elmer Tuggle Sr. and Jeffa Dee Peters. She was affectionately known as “Ma” and “May D”. She made her triumphant transition on January 22, 2021, peacefully surrounded by her children.

She served faithfully as a loving, devoted and strong soldier in the Army of the Lord! Her strong faith in the Lord remained until her transition. She trusted God completely with everything and made sure she instilled that in her children. She listened daily for God’s instructions and stood firm on one of her favorite scriptures, “Psalm 23”. She was a mentor, teacher, advisor and friend that left a lasting impression on those who God allowed to cross her path. She also loved her MBX Marching Broncos of Fayetteville State University, of which she was the band medic and “bonus mother” to them all. She looked forward to the band tailgates every year at homecoming just so that she could see all of her babies.

She was a longtime resident of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Mary worked as a Senior Field Paramedic for First Health of the Carolinas for several years until her retirement. She was in the field for 32 years and loved every minute of it. She had stories for days and loved sharing them with anyone who would listen.  She loved teaching and training all the new Emergency Medical Technicians while working as a Paramedic and still did a lot of mentoring until her health began to decline. The love her fellow comrades had for her is simply immeasurable.  Mary was a very sweet, kind-hearted and loving person, who left a lasting impression on everyone she knew.

She was married to her high school sweetheart, Malcolm Charles Anderson until their divorce in 2006. She is the devoted mother of Michael Anderson, Shaisha Anderson and Shelia Black, all of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and the late Malcolm Lamar Anderson. She had two bonus sons, Brian Laverne Mills and Jerry Wright and bonus daughter Lori Synder. Jerry Wright had an extra special place in momma’s heart as he was devoted to her for everything she needed as her illness progressed. No matter where she was at, whether home or hospital, she would always call out Jerry’s name to have him come help and this he did and never exchanged words. Mary loved to read and listen to the bible and watch Jimmy Swaggert on television all day.

Mary leaves behind to celebrate her life, her 3 children, her 5 siblings Alice Faye Peters, Donell Peters and Burnell Peters of Angie, Louisiana; Flora Ezell and Penny Sue Peters of Columbia, Mississippi; 1 grandson Brandon Joseph and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, her parents, and 6 siblings Elmer Tuggle Jr. Kelly Peters, Ronald Peters, James Brown, Julie Ann Peters and Alex Ray Peters.

Mary was selfless, lived to please God and allowed God to direct and guide her footsteps. She was a great example of a strong and faithful soldier, that followed God and her faithfulness has followed her to heaven.
