George Yara Obituary
MSG George Masami Yara (Retired), 85, of Fayetteville, died on Sunday, May 9, 2021, in Lower Cape Fear Hospice located in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was born in Lanai City, Hawaii on June 9, 1935. MSG Yara served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, and earned a Green Beret in the Special Forces.
George was preceded in death by son Randy Yara and grandson Daniel Yara. He loved gardening, fishing and playing pool, where he competed as the oldest team player at national competitions.
He is survived by wife Kazuko; a son, Michael Yara (Rosario); four daughters, Kay Yara, Geri Yara, Lois Yara and Colleen Peat (Kirk); five sisters, Judith Nakashima, Ruth Oishi, June Asato, Laura Komoda and Jennifer Watanabe; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304. Interment will follow with military honors at Lafayette Memorial Park West, 6701 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304.
