PFC Dominic D. Kess Jr.

PFC Dominic D. Kess Jr., 19, of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2026.

Dominic, affectionately known as “Nicky,” cherished the time he spent with his family. He had a deep love for the outdoors and nature and enjoyed staying active through his passion for running. He proudly participated in Track & Field at Overhills High School and was also a dedicated member of the OHS JROTC program. Dominic graduated from Overhills High School in Spring Lake, North Carolina, in May 2025.

Everything Dominic did in life, he did with passion, determination, and purpose. He was a natural leader who made an impact wherever he went whether in the classroom, on the track, through JROTC, in the U.S. Army, or, most importantly, within his own family. Those who had the privilege of crossing paths with Dominic were touched by his kindness, strength, and genuine love for others.

Dominic was a dedicated U.S. Army Paratrooper and Combat Medic whose passing leaves a profound void within his military brotherhood. He served his country with honor and carried the sacred responsibility of caring for his fellow Soldiers. As a Combat Medic, Dominic earned the trust and respect of his platoon through his exceptional dedication, strong work ethic, and natural leadership. He distinguished himself among the Airborne ranks as a standout performer who led by example, set a high standard for those around him, and earned the Army Achievement Medal for his exemplary performance.

In a deeply meaningful tribute to Dominic’s life, service, and lasting legacy, his fellow Paratroopers buried his Airborne wings on the Sainte-Mère-Église Drop Zone, forever joining a symbol of his service with the Airborne brotherhood of which he was so proud to be a part. Dominic will be deeply missed by his fellow Paratroopers, but the respect he earned, the lives he touched, and the legacy he leaves behind will remain with them always.

Dominic loved deeply and cared wholeheartedly. He was always there for those closest to him, yet his compassion extended far beyond his immediate circle to friends and others fortunate enough to know him. He had a special way of making people feel valued, supported, and cared for.

Above all, Dominic was a devoted son and brother, the kind of son and brother any family would be blessed to have. His love, leadership, kindness, and unforgettable spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Though he will be deeply missed, the love he gave and the memories he created will remain with his family and friends forever.

Dominic leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his father, Dominique Kess; his mother, Jennifer Kess; and his brothers, Sean Kess and Jayden Kess, all of Cameron, North Carolina.

He is also lovingly remembered by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, friends, fellow Soldiers, and all whose lives were touched by his presence. Dominic brought love and joy to so many, and his family will carry his memory in their hearts and honor the beautiful life he lived.

Visitation will be 1:00 - 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Cameron Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, 309 Vernon Street, Broadway, NC 27505. Funeral Services will begin at 3:00 PM following the visitation with Pastor Harry Chubbs Jr. officiating.

Graveside Services will be 12:00 PM Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd, Spring Lake, NC 28390.
