Legendary Bass Guitarist, Michael Andrew ‟Andy” McKinney, 56, of Fayetteville passed away peacefully Friday, August 22, 2025 in Valley Hospice Center.
Andy was born in Alexandria, VA on January 28, 1969, son to the late Melvin Warren McKinney and Betty Lee Tester McKinney.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Karen Lee McKinney Crawford.
Andy started playing Bass Guitar at a very early age. His talent led him all over the world playing Bass with many legendary groups and was the #1 Bassist in Europe for 2 years. Some of Andy’s accomplishments include: Former Bassist/Background Vocalist for the Legendary Southern Rock Band Molly Hatchet, Former Bassist, Lead/BBG Vocals with BARRAGE Orlando, Currently Vocalist, Songwriter, Bassist, and Guitarist for PILE ‘O’ BONES, played numerous concerts throughout the USA and Europe, including those with REO Speedwagon, STYX and other great legends. Played with Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, Nick Carter from Back Street Boys, James Taylor, Vince Neil from Motley Crue, STAGE MANAGER for Rod Stewart, Kiss and Panic! At The Disco, Lifetime Achievement Award Winner CCMA. His Legendary Purple Bass is in Hardrock Café in Atlanta.
Andy was a fun loving, life of the party jokester and was one of the kindest hearted people you could meet. He loved the Lord and tried his best to spread that love to anyone that he met. He was a motivational speaker and counselor extending hope and inspiration to many through his words and music. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Audra Sheyanne Mckinney; the mother of his daughter, Deborah Housand; his cherished and loving friend, Lynne O’Quinn; brother-in-law, Pat Crawford; nieces, Briley Johnson, Brandy Robertson and extended family members and friends.
Services will be held in Florida at a later date.
