Luz Maria Vega-Garcia
September 18, 1957 - March 1, 2026
Luz Maria Vega Garcia was born September 18, 1957 in Carolina, Puerto Rico. She spent her childhood there and relocated to the US during high school. She graduated from Roberto Clemente high school in 1978. After graduating she spent time back home in Puerto Rico.
Eventually, she moved to Chicago to be with her father. That is when she had her two daughters Jennifer and Veronica. Lucy always wanted a big family.
In 1996 she left Chicago to move to North Carolina with the love of her life Arnaldo and his 2 children. Together, they raised their children and Lucy finally had the big family she always wanted. She loved and cared for her children, but her grandchildren filled her heart with pure joy.
Her name is Luz, which means light. That is exactly what she was, a beacon of light and joy and love. She was known by many names: friends knew her as Lucy, her children called her mommy, Her grandchildren called her mama, Her husband called her juicy, and her family called her Tita.
Lucy enjoyed traveling and cooking. One of her favorite things to do was dance to old salsa music. She worked earlier in life as a Postal worker, an EEOC for the Pentagon and medical administration.
Lucy had a heart of gold, anybody that knows her will say she is a true friend and never had a bad thing to say about anybody. If you needed unwavering and unconditional love you found it in her. The Love she gave as a wife was unmatched. She took care of Naldo and in turn, he took care of her. The love they had for one another shows in the foundation they laid in their family.
Luz was preceded in death by her parents, Luis Vega and Rosa Roman; sister Luz Coriano; and grandmother Elisa Vega.
She is survived by husband Analdo Garcia, Sr.; children Jennifer Lopez (Herminio Lopez), Veronica Rodriguez-Emmett (William Emmett), Arnaldo Garcia, Jr (Melissa Garcia), Latashia Garcia (Bt McCoy); grandchildren Marianah Russi (Malakai Harvey), Dominick Garcia, Jullyana Garcia, Jesenia Lopez, Alyssa Rodriguez, Layli Garcia, Iliana Lopez, Herminio Lopez, Niyli Garcia, and Omani Garcia; siblings Mildred Rochet, Luis Vega, and Pedro Gonzales; and a host of extended family members and friends.
Her memory will forever live through her husband, children, grandchildren, and family. The memories made with each one of them will carry her legacy forever.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 10:30 to 11:30 at LaFayette Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 PM.
