Irene Maultsby, 81, of Fayetteville passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024 in her home.
Irene was born in Cumberland County on November 11, 1942, daughter to the late Anner Lee Gibbs and James C. Gibbs. She worked for a short while at Purolator, but was mostly a housewife and mother taking care of her family. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Julius A. Maultsby Sr, her grandmother, Eula Mae Jacobs and an aunt, Mary Watts and her first cousin, Anthony Alexander.
She is survived by her daughter, Carma Cordova Durden and husband Henry H. Durden of Hope Mills; sons, Richard Cordova and wife Lou Ann Cordova, Julius Maultsby Jr. and wife Victoria Maultsby, all of Hope Mills, Jose B. Cordova III of Fayetteville, NC; a sister, Mae Anner Schmitt of Hamilton, Montana and two nieces, Carol Durbin and Vicki Wiberg, both of Hamilton. Montana; a brother, James C. Gibbs of Fayetteville, NC; aunt, Geneva Alexsander, ‟Aunt Gee” of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, Henry Durden Jr., (Cody), Cheyenne Nicole Cordova, Angel Carlena Durden, Kristen Renee Cordova, Julia Maultsby ‟Juju,” Pearl Maultsby, Marcus Durden (Kerri), Ashley Durden, Dewayne Pleasants, Jake, and Nathan; 10 great grandchildren and a host of extended family members & friends. Nannie loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Cape Fear Baptist Church, 100 Indian Dr. Fayetteville, NC 28312. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 PM following the visitation with Pastors Ricky Burnett, Danny Durden, and Josh Russ officiating.
Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens, 4509 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304.
