Ira Maurice Roberts

Ira Roberts, born in Antigua on May 2, 1944. He was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by laughter, compassion, and towards the end he had unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Ira Roberts was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Keren Roberts, his wife of 52 years -Pearlie Mae Roberts, two sons -Roger and Strebor Roberts, stepson- Morris Evans, one stepdaughter- Consuelo (Connie) Evans, one granddaughter - Mahogany Venson, two brothers- Leroy and Eustace Roberts, three sisters- Eldeana Martin, Natalie Roberts-Luker and Miriam Roberts.

Ira Roberts graduated top of his class from Seventh-Day Adventist high school in Antigua. He later became an assistant pastor in the church in Antigua. He was known for his talent as a pianist. He drove buses throughout St. Thomas where he met his second wife.

Ira Roberts married Pearlie Mae Blue Roberts August 23, 1973, and moved to Fayetteville, NC. Ira and Pearlie moved to the Bronx, NY in the late 70’s. Ira worked as a truck driver for Foremost caters for over 30yrs before he retired in 2017 and moved back to Fayetteville, NC.

Ira Roberts enjoyed family get togethers especially holidays and special occasions when it included lots of food. He enjoyed music, dancing, arts and crafts, playing cards and spending time with his family. He loves his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In 1992, Ira Roberts was delivered, and he continued his faith in God Almighty. Every Tuesday and Thursday he was on the prayer line. He was a member of Beyond the Prison walls Ministries and Sure Foundation Assembly.

Anyone who knows Ira will remember his favorite lines:

“This is not Kosher”

“I am not Pearl”

“What is life without a wife or Pearl”

Ira is survived by his brother Clarence Roberts-Antigua; a brother in-law James Blue-NC; Two sons- Oral Roberts- St. Thomas and Malachi Cannon-MN; three daughters Denise Roberts- NC; Jewel Roberts- NY/NJ and Golderina Venson-NJ; a stepson Lewis (Roosevelt) Evans-NC; stepdaughter Carla Evans- NY and two sons-in-law Allen Randolph-NY and Mayo- GA; a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28304.

Funeral Services will be held following the visitation.

Interment will be held at LaFayette Memorial Park West.
