Tech Sgt. Harris S. Luther, III (Ret.) completed his final mission Monday night, December 21, 2020 at his residence in Fayetteville, North Carolina with his family by his side.
He was born on January 16, 1948 in Wilmington, NC. He graduated from New Hanover High School, in Wilmington, NC and he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1966 and served with honor and distinction for over twenty years in SAC (Security Air Command), he served three tours of duty in Vietnam and he served at the Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai AFB, Thailand where he met and fell in love with his devoted wife Phawn. After his retirement he worked for Nevada Bobs as he loved the game of golf and as a high school football, basketball, and baseball official with NCHSAA for many years.
He returned to public service at Pope Air Force Base as a civilian as the Prime Knight Manager for AMC (Air Mobility Command) air crews. He was responsible for their meals, lodging, and vehicle transportation as well as their flights in and out of the bases. He received numerous commendations and accolades for his service and was beloved by those he served around the world. Harris retired from this position in January 2019 after twenty-two years of service and was given a retirement party in April 2019 with his entire family in attendance. He was honored by the crews he served and his Lt. Colonel where he was presented a flag that flew over the base by both crews as well as two model planes of the crews he served. Of all of his accomplishments and accolades he was most proud of his family!
He was preceded in death by his parents Harris S. Luther, Jr. and Elizabeth T. Luther (Lib), his brother Richard K. Luther and sister-in-law Patricia A. Luther.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Nubang Phawn Luther, daughter Jitnapa Tim Dominowski (Ed), son Saharut Harris Luther (Hope), daughter Nubang Elizabeth Manning (Tim), his grandchildren Anthony Dominowski (Clare), Timothy Dominowski, Milagros Mimi Luther, Thai Luther, AnTares Manning, Nigel Manning, Joneek Manning, great granddaughter Kalani Manning, his sister Robin Luther Harts (Greg) and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside funeral services will be Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 2 pm at Sandhills Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at LaFayette Funeral Home from 6-8 pm.
