Duey Holbert Butler Jr.

MSGT Duey Holbert Butler Jr., (Ret), 77 of Fayetteville passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2026 in his home.

Duey was born in Jefferson County, Kentucky on October 5, 1948, son to the late Duey Holbert Butler Sr. and Lela Lee Simpson Butler. MSGT Butler joined the US Air Force in 1970 and retired in 1994 serving many tours in support of Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Duey was a member of Jesus First Church in Fayetteville and he loved working on cars, was a great mechanic and doing yard work. He enjoyed going out to eat with his family and church family and was a simple man and it did not take a lot to please him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and all who knew him.

MSGT Butler received the following awards and decorations for his honorable and faithful service: Meritorious Service Medal, AF Commendation Medal with Two Devices, AF Achievement Medal with One Device, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon with One Device, AF Training Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Award with Four Devices, AF Good Conduct Medal with Seven Devices, AF Outstanding Unit Award with One Device, served from 2 Aug 1990 to 31 Jul 1994 in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Nell Butler Davenport; son, Corey Butler; daughter and son-in-law, Tara Lynn and Chris Burdock; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Kimberley Hardee; grandchildren, Abigail Rose Butler, Ethan J. Butler, Jade Powell, Hannah Burdock, Johnathan Goins (Brittany), Dakota Chavis (Kayla) and Kassady Hardee (Victor); great grandchildren, Hayleigh, Zayne, Izabel, Nevaeh, Cash, Azsabella, Azsriel and a host of extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be 12:00 noon -1:00 PM, Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Jesus First Church, 7467 Camden Road, Fayetteville, NC 28306. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Gary Leviner Sr. officiating. Burial will take place in Jesus First Church Cemetery immediately after the service.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jesus First Church Ministries, 7467 Camden Road, Fayetteville, NC 28306.
