David Southern Grubbs Jr., 64, of Fayetteville passed away Friday, May 29, 2026 in the Fayetteville VA Hospital.
David was a hardworking, kind-hearted man who never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Born in Roanoke, Virginia, David began working at just 15 years old, a work ethic he carried throughout his life while serving in the military and managing several grocery stores. Some of his fondest memories were spent on his grandparents’ farm as a child, where he developed a love for the simple things in life. David enjoyed NASCAR, cheering on the Miami Dolphins, running, spending time at the beach, camping, and being around dogs. You could often find him watching The Andy Griffith Show, just like his father before him, or catching an episode of NCIS. Known for his sense of humor and easygoing nature, David had a way of making people laugh and feel welcome. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and the joy he brought to those who knew and loved him.
David is preceded in death by his parents, David Southern Grubbs Sr, and Sue Smallwood Grubbs, a son, Quentin Grubbs.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Amanda Burckhard and husband John of Columbia, SC, Britney Bianca Ortega and husband Carlos of Raeford, NC; sisters, Teresa Grubbs Jenkins and husband Steve of Clayton, NC, Diane Grubbs of Roanoke, Virginia; 9 grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.
