SFC Carmen Joseph DePaulo III, 36 of Fayetteville, formerly of Lyme, Connecticut, passed away March 6, 2021. SFC DePaulo was assigned to A Company, 3d Battalion, 3d Special Forces Group (Airborne).
SFC DePaulo was born on September 10, 1984 in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended Old Lyme High School in Old Lyme, Connecticut, graduating in June 2002. He enlisted in the United States Army on August 2, 2011 as a Culinary Specialist. SFC DePaulo completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina in October 2011 followed by Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Virginia in December 2011. Upon completion of training, SFC DePaulo was assigned to 2nd Brigade Support Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii from December 2011 to April 2013. SFC DePaulo attended Special Forces Assessment and Selection in April 2013 and was selected to attend the Special Forces Qualification Course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. SFC DePaulo completed the Special Forces Qualification Course as an 18D Special Forces Medical Sergeant, earning his Green Beret in December 2014. SFC DePaulo was subsequently assigned to 3d Battalion, 3d Special Forces Group (Airborne) as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant where he served on SFOD-B 3330 and SFOD-A 3314. SFC DePaulo deployed to the Republic of Chad in 2017, and to Niger in 2018 in support Counter Terrorism Operations.
SFC DePaulo’s awards and decorations include the Army Accommodation Awards (1OLC), Army Achievement Medals (1OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), the Army Service Ribbon, Special Forces Tab, Parachutist badge, and Military Free Fall Parachutist badge. He was posthumously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
SFC DePaulo is survived by his wife Abigail, and two daughters, Kathrine and Alexandra.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, March 19, 2021 at the All American Chapel, 5301 Ardennes Rd. Fort Bragg, NC 28310.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the All American Chapel with CH (CPT) Charles Awotwi officiating.
Burial will follow at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
