Sfc Sidney Dwight Redding (Ret)

SFC Sidney Dwight Redding, (Ret), 73 of Fayetteville passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024 in Womack Army Medical Center.

SFC Redding was born in Craven County, NC on December 15, 1950, son to the late Joseph Sidney Redding and Gladys Conway Redding. He joined the US Army after completing college with a BS degree in History from East Carolina University. After his retirement from the US Army in 1994, he was a substitute teacher for the Cumberland County School district at Grays Creek High School.

He is survived by his wife Ann Phelps Redding of Fayetteville; daughters, Tabitha Redding and husband Zev Redding of Fayetteville, NC, Crystal Redding and husband Chris Whitehead of Garner, NC, Cathleen Levos and husband Ben of Elko, NV, Stacy Chong Tim and husband Anthony of Las Vegas, NV and Debra O’Bleness and fiancé Chris Passow of Fayetteville, NC; a son, Patrick O’Bleness of Portland, OR; sisters, Karen Lindquist of Hubert, NC and Marilyn Redding-Johnsen of Jacksonville, FL 14 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many extended family members.

A Celebration of SFC Redding’s life with Full Military Honors will take place 3:00 5:00 PM Saturday, April 27, 2024 at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304. Everyone is asked to wear purple, especially ECU purple, in celebration of his favorite color.

His wife, Ann, adds: “Sidney was a loving and supportive husband and father. His family and extended family meant the world to him. During our 47 year marriage, we had our ups and downs but through it all, his love was always there.”
