Ricky Burnett, 65 of Lumberton Passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024 in UNC Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
Rick was born in Hamlet, North Carolina on September 24, 1958 to the late Blease Bennett and Nellie Hatcher Bennett.
Rick leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 40 years Sue; son, Michael of Tacoma, Washington; sister, Barbara Ann Sale of Rockingham, North Carolina and brother Jeffery Bennett of Leland, North Carolina.
Rick, the youngest of 10 children was preceded in death by his parents Blease and Nellie Bennett, brothers Jimmy, Howard, Robert, Billy Wayne. Sisters, Millie Linton, Maudine Mercer and Betty Norton all of Rockingham, North Carolina.
Rick grew up in Rockingham, No Carolina, attended Richmond High School and after graduating, joined the Army. After completing his basic training Rick was eventually stationed at Fort Lewis Army Base in Tacoma, Washington. While stationed at Fort Lewis Rick met and married Sue (also from No Carolina). Rick was a Staff Sargent and proud veteran in the U.S. Army, serving tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. After completing 27 years of service to his country, Rick and Sue moved to Lumberton, North Carolina.
Rick loved watching all sports, and fishing, but most of all he loved taking his motor home and traveling with his beloved Sue. Many trips were across the states to Tacoma Washington to see family and friends. Rick of the Baptist faith was a gentle soul who could strike up a conversation and make a stranger a friend in minutes. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
