Vera A. Riley was called home on April 19, 2012. She was a resident of Barbour Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Smithfield, North Carolina for several years.

Mrs. Riley was born in Cumberland County on February 18, 1925 to the late Mr. Talton Brigman and his wife Mrs. Ada Quick. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Mr. Joseph Bernice Riley; her sons Gordon Oliver, Joseph “Bernie” Riley, Jr.; her brother, Earnest “Buddy” Brigman. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Mostly, Nanny enjoyed spending time with her loved ones.

Creativity was one of her biggest assets. She quilted, crocheted and knitted, mostly for others. She acquired a beautiful treasure trove of bells and cherished the thimble collection which she gathered from all over the world.

She is survived by three sons, Allen Oliver and his wife Kay, Dean Riley and his wife Sherry, Rick Riley and his wife Emily; Six grandchildren, Shannon Howard and her husband Chris, Michael Oliver, John Joel “JJ” and his girlfriend, Courtney, Matthew and his wife Amber, Krissie and Ethan Riley; Five great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Jennifer, Harley, Chase and Aiden; One great-great grandchild, Zander.

Visitation will be at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at LaFayette Funeral Home Chapel, 6651 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304.

Funeral Service will be 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at LaFayette Funeral Home Chapel, 6651 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304.

Mom, you have fought a long enough battle and God has called you home. Go to the place that God has prepared for you to live your eternal life. We will miss you, but we will rejoice in your homecoming. Until then, we will wait to see you again in heaven.

Burial will be in Cumberland Mills Cemetery on Bingham Drive in Fayetteville.

In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
