Marie (Maynor) Chavis

Mrs. Marie Maynor Chavis, 80 years of age, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mrs. Marie was born in Cumberland County on February 12th, 1936, to the late Rev. Benjamin and Mrs. Esther Maynor. She was married to the late William L. “Bill” Chavis from 1955-2014. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lou Jones and a brother, Robert (Bobby) Maynor.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Teresa Jones (Randy); Sandra Chavis (Jerry), Rachel Shipman (Darryl); a sister, Denise Cox; 4 grandchildren Anthony and Matthew Jones, Lillian Whitted and Benjamin Emanuel; 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews along with a host of relatives and friends.

Marie was a life-long member of Cape Fear Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher for over 30 years, a member of the church choir and Cape Fear Quartet, which later became known as the Cape Fear Gospelear’s.  She loved gospel music!  

Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 pm Friday, February 3rd, 2017 at Cape Fear Baptist Church, 100 Indian Drive, Fayetteville, NC.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, February 4th, 2017 at Cape Fear Baptist Church, with Rev. Leonard Gibbs, officiating assisted by Rev. Tony Brewington.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
